SEGi joined forces with the Lion Club of Kota Sentosa and Region 1 District 308-A2 Lions and Leo Clubs on 20 July 2025 for the Foods Collection & Feed the Hunger Project<\/em>, a purposeful initiative aimed at combating hunger and poverty in local communities. Held at Stutong Community Market from 7:30am to 11:30am, the event brought together over 50 volunteers\u2014including four dedicated representatives from the SEGi Leo Club and Faculty Advisor Lion Vincent Cheong\u2014to drive meaningful impact on the ground.<\/p>\n

The project aligned closely with the Lions Clubs International\u2019s global humanitarian priorities and further reflected SEGi College Sarawak\u2019s active commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 1: No Poverty and SDG 2: Zero Hunger. As global hunger continues to rise\u2014with an estimated 783 million people facing chronic hunger in 2022 alone, according to the UN FAO\u2019s State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World<\/em> report \u2014grassroots interventions like this play a crucial role in local relief efforts and long-term awareness.<\/p>\n

Before the day began, Kapitan Lion Chong Nam Fah provided a thorough briefing and coordinated the volunteers into working teams. The structured process ensured smooth collection, sorting, and delivery of food essentials to various beneficiaries including the Lions Nursing Home, old folks\u2019 homes, and families living in hardship across rural areas of Sarawak. The collaboration also saw the support of local vendors and generous passers-by who contributed to the food drive.<\/p>\n

SEGi\u2019s participation in this initiative wasn\u2019t just about charity\u2014it was about cultivating empathy, leadership, and community engagement among students. Programmes like these create valuable opportunities for youth to contribute to real-world impact while gaining exposure to the realities faced by marginalised populations. In doing so, students grow not just academically but also socially and ethically\u2014traits essential for building responsible global citizens.<\/p>\n

By stepping beyond the classroom and into the heart of community service, SEGi continues to champion causes that matter. The hands-on involvement of its Leo Club members speaks to the institution\u2019s mission of shaping students who lead with compassion and purpose in a world that needs both.<\/p>\n
