SEGi Sarawak\u2019s Diploma in Creative Multimedia students recently immersed themselves in a dynamic real-world learning experience through an educational visit to OOPSSTUDIO, a thriving multimedia production house founded by renowned visual artist and entrepreneur Amierul Sailan. Held on 19 March 2025, the visit was part of SEGi\u2019s ongoing commitment to bridging classroom knowledge with industry practice\u2014cultivating both professional skills and global citizenship.<\/p>\n

The session, attended by 13 students and their lecturer, provided invaluable insights into the technical and creative rigour behind professional videography and photography. From pre-production planning to post-production editing, students were introduced to the full scope of media production, while also gaining hands-on exposure to high-end equipment and lighting systems in action. The experience not only reinforced academic learning but showcased the real-world application of communication, collaboration, and creativity\u2014skills deemed essential by the World Economic Forum\u2019s Future of Jobs Report 2023<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Founder Amierul Sailan shared the studio\u2019s inspiring journey and unpacked the realities of freelancing, content creation, and entrepreneurship. According to the International Labour Organization, the global creative economy is projected to contribute up to 10% of global GDP by 2030. Empowering students to navigate this evolving landscape, the visit highlighted the importance of portfolio-building, adaptability, and continuous skill enhancement in a competitive digital-first market.<\/p>\n

This initiative also reflects SEGi\u2019s alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure). The visit not only fostered industry-relevant knowledge but also encouraged students to pursue ethical, impactful careers in the creative sector\u2014contributing to inclusive growth and innovation on a global scale.<\/p>\n

Beyond the technical, students left with a deeper appreciation for the discipline and artistry that define professional media production. They saw first-hand how visual storytelling can influence narratives, shift perspectives, and even shape social change\u2014an essential skillset in today\u2019s information-driven society.<\/p>\n
