SEGi recently delivered a powerful message on health education and family empowerment through its Maternal and Infant Care Campaign 2025<\/em>, a dynamic half-day initiative focused on improving health literacy, parenting practices, and shared caregiving responsibilities. Designed for both mothers and fathers, the campaign provided a well-rounded, hands-on learning experience that addressed the real-life challenges faced by new and expectant parents, while challenging outdated gender norms in infant care.<\/p>\n

Participants engaged in a series of interactive demonstrations covering essential skills such as infant swaddling, safe breastfeeding positions, baby-wearing, bottle feeding, and basic interactive play. A particular emphasis was placed on encouraging paternal involvement, aiming to dismantle the long-held assumption that infant care is solely a mother\u2019s role. The event integrated poster presentations on topics such as prenatal nutrition, postnatal recovery, breastfeeding benefits, and developmental milestones, making complex concepts easy to absorb in a visual and accessible format.<\/p>\n

One of the highlights of the event was the health and wellness segment, which addressed the often-overlooked aspect of maternal recovery. Guided postnatal exercises and a lively Zumba session reinforced the importance of physical activity for postpartum mental wellbeing. The campaign also featured a critical safety component, led by SEGi\u2019s own Cherry from the Faculty of Allied Health, who conducted intensive workshops on infant CPR and choking management using medical-grade mannequins \u2014 empowering participants with life-saving skills in realistic settings.<\/p>\n

Globally, maternal and child health remains a public health priority. According to the World Health Organization, 2.5 million newborns die every year, and the majority of these deaths are preventable with improved care practices and education. Initiatives like this campaign serve as a vital tool in bridging that gap by bringing knowledge and practical skills directly to the community.<\/p>\n

By combining structured education, engaging experiences, and practical training, the campaign succeeded in nurturing a more informed, confident, and inclusive community of caregivers. This initiative aligns with SEGi College Sarawak\u2019s commitment to producing not only career-ready graduates but socially responsible changemakers capable of contributing meaningfully to family and community wellbeing.<\/p>\n
