SEGi College Sarawak recently reaffirmed its commitment to student health and well-being through an impactful awareness talk on sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), organized by the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing, and Health Sciences.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This event, held in collaboration with the Kuching Division Health Office, featured Dr. Hana, who delivered a comprehensive presentation aimed at educating students on the critical aspects of sexual health. This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The talk provided in-depth insights into various STDs, including chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis, and HIV\/AIDS, emphasizing the severe health risks these infections pose if left untreated. Given that young adults, especially college students, are at a higher risk due to factors like increased sexual activity and lack of awareness, the session stressed the importance of early detection and regular testing. The alarming reality that many STDs can be asymptomatic highlights the need for regular health check-ups to prevent complications and further transmission.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Hana also addressed the social stigma surrounding STDs, noting that this often prevents individuals from seeking timely medical assistance. The session concluded with an engaging Q&A segment, where students could directly interact with the expert, further enhancing their understanding of these critical health issues.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to the informative talk, students were offered free health screenings for HIV, syphilis, and Hepatitis C, underscoring SEGi\u2019s proactive approach to student health. An educational display on smoking cessation was also part of the event, providing students with resources and strategies to quit smoking, further promoting a healthy campus environment.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
