SEGi College Sarawak recently organised a talk by Produksi Seni DuaPuluhDuaPuluh Sdn Bhd, a local production company, to share their journey of making their horror movie, <\/span>Sumpahan Jerunai<\/span><\/i>, and to announce an upcoming poster contest. The talk was attended by lecturers and students from different programmes, including the Diploma in Mass Communication, the Diploma in Information Technology, and the Diploma in Creative Multimedia.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The talk started with the Executive Director, Dato\u2019 Nancie Foo, sharing an overview of the film’s plot, which revolves around the Melanau culture and their belief in the curse of <\/span>Jerunai<\/span><\/i>. The movie has been in production for four years and is set to be released in cinemas in July 2023. The production team consisted of local talents, including actors and crew members, with the addition of the SEGi College Sarawak\u2019s Mass Communication students as part of the crew.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The objectives of the film, as shared by the Producer Datin Dr Wendy Wong, are to educate viewers about Malaysia’s rich history and culture, to promote Malaysia as a tourism destination, and to preserve Malaysia’s culture. This horror movie serves as a platform to showcase Malaysia’s cultural diversity to a wider audience.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Apart from sharing the journey of making the film, the production team also announced an upcoming poster contest for students. This contest is an opportunity for our students to showcase their creativity by designing a poster that best represents the film’s concept and story. The winning poster will be used as an official poster for the movie’s promotion.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This talk by Produksi Seni DuaPuluhDuaPuluh Sdn Bhd gave valuable insights to the students. They were able to learn about the movie production process, the challenges faced during the making of the movie, and the significance of preserving Malaysia’s culture. The poster contest also gives our students the chance to showcase their talents and creativity. The collaboration between the production company and our Mass Communication students is a great example of industry-academia collaboration that can benefit both parties.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
