On 24 June 2026<\/strong>, the School of Psychology, SEGi College Penang<\/strong> successfully organised the webinar “CHEMSEX Uncovered: Between Pleasure, Risk, and Support”<\/strong> via Microsoft Teams. The educational session brought together psychology students and staff to explore the growing public health and mental health concerns surrounding chemsex through an evidence-based and compassionate approach.<\/p>\n

The webinar featured Mr. Ashwin Thind<\/strong>, Clinical Psychologist at The Kinara, Deputy Director of the International Society of Substance Use Professionals (ISSUP) Malaysia, Global Master Trainer for ISSUP, UNODC and the Colombo Plan, as well as a PhD candidate in Public Health (Chemsex) at Universiti Malaya. Drawing from his extensive professional experience, Mr. Thind shared valuable insights into the psychological, physical, and social dimensions of chemsex.<\/p>\n

Throughout the session, participants gained a comprehensive understanding of the risks associated with chemsex, including its impact on mental health, substance use, and overall well-being. The webinar highlighted the importance of recognising emerging behavioural health issues and understanding the complex factors that contribute to substance use within different communities.<\/p>\n

Mr. Thind also introduced evidence-based approaches to harm reduction, early identification, intervention, and support strategies. Emphasising empathy over stigma, he encouraged participants to adopt informed and compassionate responses when supporting individuals affected by substance use and related mental health challenges.<\/p>\n

The webinar provided an enriching learning experience for psychology students by strengthening their understanding of contemporary issues in clinical psychology and public health. Participants were equipped with practical knowledge that will support future professional practice, advocacy efforts, and multidisciplinary collaboration in addressing behavioural health concerns.<\/p>\n
