The impact of the second lockdown have been speculated to be more on economic sectors and businesses in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The question we often ask is how do we get through this difficult time. How to build resilience?<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Resilience<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0by definition is the ability to bounce back and overcome hardship. But is resilience something we are all born with? It is built over time; through life experiences interacting with our unique predisposition and genetic makeup. This clearly explains why we respond to stress and adversity\u2014differently!<\/p>\n<div class=\"vc_row wpb_row section vc_row-fluid \">\n<div class=\" full_section_inner clearfix\">\n<div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12\">\n<div class=\"vc_column-inner \">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<p>Here are\u00a0<strong>THREE\u00a0<\/strong>suggested ways of building resilience during the second lockdown.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Offload the Negative Side<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Imagine resilience as a balance scale. For some people during the lockdown, the resilience scale may look like this:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wpb_single_image wpb_content_element vc_align_center\">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"vc_single_image-wrapper vc_box_border_grey\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"vc_single_image-img attachment-large aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/colleges.segi.edu.my\/penang\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2021\/06\/Picture1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"601\" height=\"210\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"vc_row wpb_row section vc_row-fluid \">\n<div class=\" full_section_inner clearfix\">\n<div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12\">\n<div class=\"vc_column-inner \">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<p>Key is to lighten the load on the negative side of the resilience scale by\u00a0<strong>reducing sources of stress<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First,<em>\u00a0address basic needs<\/em>\u00a0like food, shelter, diapers, health care, child care, and internet access \u2014 Seek assistance if needed.<\/li>\n<li><em>Unemployed adults can seek for assistance<\/em>\u00a0through applying for governmental financial assistance.<\/li>\n<li><em>Closed schools\/preschool\/childcare centres\u00a0<\/em>\u2014 schools or centres can create and provide children\u2019s activity kits (colouring books, word searches, puzzles, workbooks, craft supplies, etc.) to give parents and caregivers a break and reduce stress of looking for online class resources.<\/li>\n<li><em>Adults to practice self-care<\/em>\u2014taking a few minutes for themselves, going for a walk, or getting plenty of rest.<\/li>\n<li><em>Organisations can make sure staff are aware of and taking advantage of employee benefits<\/em>\u2014 employee assistance programs, mental health counselling, and paid time off.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong>Add Up the Positive Side<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Build the positive side of the resilience scale by adding on positive experiences\u2014through\u00a0<strong>responsive relationships.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Nurture and encourage connections with family and friends<\/em>\u00a0\u2014 Even though maintaining physical distance is required; calls, video chat, emailing the people we care about can protect our emotional well-being.<\/li>\n<li><em>Children\u2019s development doesn\u2019t pause during a crisis<\/em>\u2014 supporting that development and building resilience doesn\u2019t have to take a lot of effort or extra time. Little things that can be done is as simple as a hug a day, or a response when your child is showing you their toys\/art work.<\/li>\n<li><em>Adults can take a break every now and then from work<\/em>\u00a0and engage in play with their children. Playing with a child is a great way to relieve some stress for all!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><strong>Strengthen the balance<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Pivot scale toward positive outcomes by\u00a0<strong>strengthening core life skills.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Core life skills during the pandemic, involves planning trips to the grocery store or market, filling out forms for loan relief, navigating support programs, managing work, home, and caring for children.
