In a bid to empower the next generation of accountants, SEGi recently hosted a dynamic career talk featuring the Malaysia Institute of Accountants (MIA) professional speaker, Siti Murni Amer. Held on 15 August, 2023, this event provided valuable insights into the world of accounting and aimed to inspire accounting students to embark on a rewarding career journey.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Siti Murni Amer, the Manager of the Competency Framework and Development Department at MIA, kicked off the engaging session by introducing herself and delving into the essential roles, responsibilities, and functions of MIA. The primary objective was to ignite interest among accounting students and guide them towards pursuing a career in accountancy. Final-year students from various accounting programs, including the accounting degree (UOG BAAF), Foundation in Commerce, and Diploma in Accounting, were in attendance.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

MIA, a highly esteemed institution, plays a pivotal role in producing qualified chartered accountants in Malaysia. Graduates often grapple with career choices and job transitions, and this talk was designed to offer professional guidance to help students make informed decisions.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

One key highlight of the session was dispelling the misconception that automation and artificial intelligence might threaten the accounting profession. Siti Murni Amer emphatically clarified that this notion is far from the truth. In fact, with the advent of Industry 4.0 (IR4.0), the accounting industry is witnessing a surge in opportunities and evolving roles that demand competence and adaptability.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The speaker elaborated on various avenues for professional development that students can explore after completing their degrees. Siti Murni Amer provided valuable insights into the accounting industry, outlining the path to becoming Associate members of MIA, the routes to charted accountancy post-bachelor and Master’s qualifications, strategies for self-improvement once employed, sectors where accountants can make a significant impact, and the competitive salary range for professional accountants.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The session also featured interactive quizzes, with students receiving gifts for correct answers. The event concluded on a high note with a group photo capturing the memorable occasion, featuring MIA speakers, lecturers, and students.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
