In conjunction with the InternationalWomen’s Day, the Counselling Unit of Student Affairs Division, together with Peer Counsellor and Chalkzone Acad3mia, organised a series of programmes to celebrate the contribution of women and to help heighten the awareness of the challenges a woman is still facing in the society today. The Women’s Day 2019 in SEGi University kicked off three weeks before the actual International Women’s Day, which falls on the 8th of March every year. First up was the Flower Dedication Drive, where booths were set up in the campus for students and staff members to pre-order a flower to be dedicated to the ladies they want to appreciate in their lives. Came Women’s Day, it was such an excitement to see the buzz around the campus as the flowers were delivered to the female students, lecturers, and staff members. What a joy it was to see the beautiful faces lit up as the flowers chocolates, and cards were handed to them. Even the male students and staff were seeming excited by the occasion, with words of encouragements and appreciations ringing all around.
Organisation (WAO), one of the most prominent advocacy and support organisations for women in Malaysia. The workshop, themed “Learn to Manage Your Relationship” conducted by Ms. Jaskirath Sohanpal, who is the Advocacy Officer from WAO was not only lively and full of humour, but more so filled with great insights and important messages. The crowd of around 160 students in the packed auditorium learned about signs of an abusive relationship and ways to protect themselves by practicing good consent, messages which they badly needed but may not have the opportunity to learn about elsewhere. During the workshop, as well as at the exhibition booth after the workshop, students flooded Ms. Jas with questions and comments about relationship, and she had the opportunity to answer, clarify, and gave guidance to students, that they may enjoy an enhanced social relationship in their lives. Though the name of the occasion may be Women’s Day, essentially it is a celebration for everyone. While the ladies are specifically celebrated and honoured, everyone can take this opportunity to build and enhance the relationship with their loved ones and with each other.
