There is a Chinese proverb that says – “It is easy to get a thousand prescriptions, but hard to get one single remedy.” The same can be said about being a pharmacist. There are numerous medicines available for every single health symptom, but which is the right medicine that is effective and safe for you? Only a pharmacist is able to provide you with the information and advice to help you in making the right choice with your medicine, as pharmacists are well trained with specialised and in-depth knowledge of medicines, its uses and actions, side effects and interactions with other medicines and food, and how these medicines should be taken.
If you are thinking of being a pharmacist, then you are providing yourself an opportunity to make a difference in the health and wellbeing of the society, directly or indirectly, depending on where you practice. Being a pharmacist provide you with a wide career option with excellent prospects and remunerations. You can work as a hospital/clinical and community pharmacist. You can also choose to work in pharmaceutical drug companies, where you can be involved in overseeing manufacturing, quality assurance or sales and marketing of medicines; or be involved in research and development; or clinical trials for new medicines. You can also choose to work in other areas such as government regulatory agencies, veterinary, military and academia.
